A Romantic and Playful Cairns Wedding Story
As a Cairns marriage celebrant, I had the joy of helping childhood sweethearts and big kids at heart Elisabeth and Tim create a whimsical Palm Cove wedding that felt truly “them.” Their day was personal, romantic, and full of laughter — a celebration of love, family, and staying forever young.

They wanted their love story to come to life vividly, to feel safe to express themselves, and to honour their families.
The Setting

My Role as Their Celebrant
I helped them feel safe enough to stand before family and friends and express how they truly feel about each other — something they didn’t know they could do.
I encouraged their creativity and gave them the freedom to think outside the box, to play up their quirks and their big-kid energy, and to weave that joyful spirit through every moment of their Cairns wedding ceremony.
Unique Touches
Tim and his groomsmen arrived in true 007 style, setting the tone for a fun-filled ceremony.
We honoured family with heartfelt acknowledgements and a touching handfasting led by their mothers. Tim’s mum read a poem she had handwritten for the occasion.
Before the ceremony, they shared a quiet moment in the forest to exchange private vows and letters — a chance to breathe and reflect.
And of course, a few surprises: a hand-drawn hangman on their vow cards (a nod to how they first met), a favourite Winnie the Pooh quote, Friends references, and a playful “in-joke” blessing for their future:
“There is a terrific quote that really reflects the beauty of the extraordinary relationship the two of you share. It says, ‘Don’t marry the person you’ll grow old with, marry the person you’ll stay young with.’
May you always embrace your inner weirdos and keep having fun doing whatever it is you think the other one wants.
May you keep the humour alive and the dad jokes flowing.
Tim, keep dreaming, and Elisabeth, keep saving, so that together you can bring your dreams to life — like driving around the streets of Kanazawa in your nice new GTR.
And may you one day farm Japanese plums and open your plum winery in Tasmania.”

“We wanted someone who cared about our story, and someone who we could connect with. We wanted someone who would help us get over our shyness and make us feel safe and comfortable to express our feelings to each other. At our first meeting, within minutes, Ali made us feel like we were catching up with someone we’d known our whole lives. She made us feel welcome, safe and made us realise just how special our love story is. We both knew straight away that she was perfect for our special day.
Our wedding day would not have been the same without Ali. Not only did she help create a safe, relaxed atmosphere, she helped bring our love story to life. The way she went above and beyond to incorporate such intricate and intimate details about our relationship and describe our love for each other in our ceremony, made it so personal and a wedding that many of our guests said is the best they’ve ever been to. Ali made it so that everyone in the room was able to know our story and feel our love for each other. We especially loved the finishing touches and special surprises that Ali brought to our wedding, things like our personal little future goals, and our hangman game is something we will hold onto forever.
If you make the best decision of your life to have Ali as your celebrant, you need to make sure you don’t hold back. Be as open as you can with Ali and she will help make your wedding day the best day of your life. We did, and we are so thankful for the memories that Ali helped us to create. We will cherish them for the rest of our lives.
We can’t imagine our ceremony to be led by anyone other than Ali. To truly experience the special celebration that a wedding should be, you need a celebrant who will make your love story, as lame as it might be, come to life. You need to let your inhibition go, let your emotion run wild and just be in the moment. Ali helped us both come out of our shells, and feel comfortable to stand in front of our family and friends, and say how we truly feel about each other. Something that we didn’t know we could do.
We are so thankful that we got to share our special day with Ali, thank you for everything you did for us and for making our wedding day the most memorable day of our life xx.”
